Newark Weir - A Playboater’s Guide

Posted on Wednesday 24th October, 2012

Newark Weir, Newark-on-Trent.

Activity: Playboating

Dale Newark

Location: NG24 4TT, Mill Lane, Newark-on-Trent. Drive over bridge and park on the left handside. Parking is very limited, be courteous to fishermen and locals (they will also not want to see your naked bum's).

Newark all up

Level: The level can be checked on the Collwick Gauge. It runs at different levels depending on whether it is rising or falling and the time of the year due to the foliage around the island. It seems to be a good bet between 1.75 -2.2m.

Always visually check the weir before getting on making sure it is safe for your ability.

Stu Newark Front Surf

Dangers: At high flows the weir can form a stopper which is very difficult to get out of, you have been warned!! Anglers also regulary fish both up and downstream of the weir.

Notes: The weir can become very busy on a weekend when it is running. Newark has some nice tea and cake shops as well as pubs for when you have finished a hard session.
