Advanced prepreg composites
At VE we’re very picky about materials. We use only the highest quality woven and unidirectional high-strength carbon and glass fibres that come pre-impregnated with top-quality toughened epoxy resin. Using prepreg materials is different to most other manufacturers who use a liquid epoxy resin with dry fabrics.
Prepreg glass + carbon
Our resin is a blend of thermosetting epoxy with a thermoplastic additive which, in simple terms, means it’s tougher and more damage tolerant.
Using a prepreg manufacturing method we can achieve a greater scratch resistant surface finish with no gel coat or lacquer.
We’ve got exact and accurate control over the fibre-to-resin ratio and where we lay the fibres. More science equals more strength and toughness!
Unlike most other manufacturers, our carbon blades are made from 100% carbon fibre, not just a carbon layer on the outside hiding the glass on the inside.
On glass dye-sublimated models, the polyester fabric colour layer adds extra durability.
Whitewater construction
Our whitewater construction increases strength and durability with strengthening steps towards the tip.
For superior edge retention and further resisting delamination our resin infused prepreg material and heat compression moulding ensure consistency, so the composite layers are fully bonded together without risk of delamination.
Touring-lite construction
Our lite lay-up reduces blade weight by up to 30%, for a lighter and more supple feel. The blade is 60% thinner at the tip than our whitewater blades. A lower swing weight which helps reduce fatigue over distance.
Our touring models use the same materials and spine design as standard constructions – providing essential strength and rigidity in key areas.
